So for some reason, I decided to take ENGL 1023 Introduction to the Study of Literature during my second semester of first year and that was a mistake. Not because the class was bad! Quite the opposite actually, I really enjoyed this course; however, it counted as the same credit as ENGL 1016 – so I had basically taken the same class twice. Not only that, I just found out my English IB credits also counted as ENGL 1016, so I have essentially taken intro English three times over six semesters…. whoops.
I don’t read a lot of Hemingway, so this was new for me. This essay looks at the role of the setting and landscape in “Hills Like White Elephants.” Setting and environment is something I really like to dissect in literature, I have many essays that I have written later in my degree that also focus on the narrative of the environment.
