This essay is all about freedom of the press and promiscuous reading. I used seventeenth-century works Areopagitica by John Milton and “Delight in Disorder” by Robert Herrick. I am personally not a fan of pre-1800 literature, so this was a little bit of a struggle for me; however, I think it turned out alright and my Prof. liked it. 🙂
I think this essay is also interesting to look at in comparison to some of the later writing I have done for my Later 18th Century Literature class, where we have studied the reception of the novel and the moral requirements for novels and how they were problematic because a novel is almost always inherently bildungsroman.
